America won its independence with a little help from France. The French also sent us the Statue of Liberty as a symbol of freedom. The landmark’s official name is “Liberty Enlightening the World.”

Their day is July 1. They might do things a little differently, but they’re all in favor of a long weekend for celebrating, too.

Visitors and locals flock to the marsh for this event. Boats from all over the area strut their stuff, decked out in patriotic themes. The Murrells Inlet Boat Parade sets off from Garden City Point. It travels through the inlet to Morse Park Landing. Head out before 9 p.m. for a good spot.
