Myrtle Beach Boardwalk During The Day

Boardwalk Wins Governor’s Cup

Congratulations to our friends at the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk!

The 1.3-mile boardwalk and promenade, which is the new center of the downtown area, was recently awarded the 2015 Governor’s Cup during the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Travel.

This award also recognized the attractions, restaurants, and festivals that are associated with the Boardwalk. The now-iconic Boardwalk opened in May 2010 and was expanded in 2013, now stretching from the 15th Avenue North pier to the First Avenue North pier.

But it’s not only home to piers, restaurants, and the SkyWheel. The boardwalk is also home to festivals and events including the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration, the Hot Summer Nights concert series, Halloween Friday Nights, and special holiday events.

“The Myrtle Beach Boardwalk is the centerpiece of our tourism, and its positive effect on the city and the entire Grand Strand cannot be overstated,” President and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Brad Dean said. “In its first five years, the boardwalk has had a substantial impact on the entire downtown area, making it a go-to destination for both visitors to the Myrtle Beach area and local residents who want to be a part of the fun and excitement.”

In addition to this prestigious award, the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk was recognized as number three on National Geographic’s Top 10 U.S. Boardwalks in 2014. The Boardwalk has also been recognized by USA Today, Travel + Leisure Magazine, and the Today Show.

Since opening, the Boardwalk has netted more than $2 million in free publicity, which is a winning proposition for everyone in Myrtle Beach, and generated more than 250 permanent new jobs.

“The downtown area is thriving, as the many great amenities found along the boardwalk attract more and more visitors,” Myrtle Beach Mayor John Rhodes said. “We are so thankful for this recognition, and share it with the many merchants, community leaders, and other stakeholders who made this boardwalk a reality.”

With all of the family-friendly activities and attractions happening almost year-round, it’s no surprise that this year’s Governor’s Cup was awarded to the one and only Myrtle Beach Boardwalk.
